Je veux tout – Ariane Moffatt / French lyrics and English translation

“Je veux tout” is a totally catchy song from Québecois artist Ariane Moffatt. I have her album Tous les sens (downloaded on Canadian iTunes) and I really, really like it. It also won the 2009 Juno award for Francophone album of the year, so the Juno judges clearly liked it as well. For those of you who don’t know, the Juno Awards honour Canadian musicians and other artists in the Canadian music industry.

Any way, to the song. It is great for learning as Ariane sings clearly and slowly. The video, French lyrics, English translation, and an explanation of the vocabulary are all after the jump.

Moi… Lolita – Alizée. French lyrics / English translation.

“Moi… Lolita” is a popular French song by the young Alizée and was like the “Hit me baby one more time” of the French-speaking world. It was the immensely popular début single from Alizée, who was just 16 when the single was released (how very Britney Spears). Comme des enfants – Coeur de pirate. French lyrics and English translation.

Coeur de pirate released her debut album recently. She is a young woman from Québec and I am a big fan of her first album. This song has a lot of lyrics, and I had a very hard time understanding it all at first. This is my own translation, but I’ve had some input from others that speak French better than I do. “Pour que tu m’aimes encore” (English: So that you will love me again) is Celine Dion’s biggest French hit.  I love this song, and it is great for learning a few interesting vocabulary words.

Hello, and welcome to French2Music!  I am a Canadian native English-speaker, who had the opportunity to study in French for six years.  After a five year break from studying la belle langue seriously, I am back trying to work my way up to being properly fluent.  One of my favourite ways to expand my vocabulary and my knowledge is by listening to popular French music.  So this will be my project to share with anyone who is interested my studies of French music.

This will be best suited to those who have at least an intermediate level of French.
